Lake Superior & Ishpeming Page

The Lake Superior and Ishpeming (LS&I) Railroad is owned by the Cleveland-Cliffs Iron Company (CCI),  and is primarily an ore hauling railroad. Freight jobs are few, and include Ferrel Gas in Negaunee, ore hauls to the ore dock in Marquette, mining operations at Tilden and Empire Mines, and rare moves near the city of Ishpeming.

Freight to the mines is a daily routine. Ore operations start at Eagle Mills with 3 shifts, at 0700, 1500 and 2300. The Hill Job will regulary make 2 runs/shifts from Eagle Mills to Marquette and back, in which they  bringing loads down the Hill.

The Tilden Job will bring empties from Eagle Mills to the Mine, and load up twice per shift.

The Yard Job brings both freight and empties to the mine, does all the "extra" freight work, and occasionally will run the Hill to Marquette as well.

The Weigher is just one shift, and will load cars at the Tilden Mine to exchange with the WC crews for Algoma Steel, as WC cannot go into the Tilden Mine, which meets with the Weigher and SORE 1 are usually at Partridge. The Dock Job is stationed in Marquette and switches West Yard and works the ore dock. Sometimes on slower days, they will run a 'double-job', meaning the Dock and the Hill will be done by one crew for that shift, the 'Dock/Hill'
