Short History of CNW Railroad:
Here is a little bit of C&NW history. The C&NW
were the only left-handed railroad in the country. On double track, all other railroads run on the right side, like driving
a car, the C&NW ran on the left side. The other thing is the pink ballast. As for freight. They also ran a lot of coal
from North Dakota, one of the first piggyback cars, intermodal, along with mid west like grain, cattle, and auto parts. The
C&NW had a lot of the firsts. They had the first passenger car in Chicago, on of the first diesel engines and one of the
first hump yards.
In 1995, what some railroad historians and analysts have long said was inevitable happened: Chicago & North
Western was merged into Union Pacific.
